COMMUNITY DAY: 18th July 2018 – 10am – 2pm

Dear Parents/Carers,

COMMUNITY DAY: 18th July 2018 – 10am – 2pm

We are holding our fifth whole College community day on Wednesday 18th July 2018 from 10am to 2pm. Last year was a huge success and we want to continue and expand in 2018. It is an expectation that all students who are still at College (Year 7,8, 9,10 and 12) attend and participate fully.

The aim of the day is that we all make a direct, measurable and visible impact upon the Dartford community. The day is not only beneficial for the town, but it has long lasting and positive effects for our students.

Please note that students will be expected to arrive and depart from their placement location. There will be teams of 10 students with at least one member of staff. This year 95% of the placements are centrally placed so within easy reach of DSTC or the town centre. For the few that are further away I shall do my best to place students that are near home to alleviate any transport issues however this is not always possible and I would be grateful if you could support any arrangements. Students are not required to wear uniform but should be wearing the bespoke community T shirts which will be given out a few days’ before. The lead teacher of the placement will advise if any specialist clothing/footwear is needed.

How will it work?

1. Students are informed of what placement they are going to.
2. They will have a week to swap with someone if desired.
3. A team is formed and the supervising teacher will have a meeting with their team going through the details, location etc.
4. Students are to make their own way to the placement for 10am.
5. Students are to bring their own lunch/water etc unless they are entitled to free schools meals where a packed lunch will be provided.
6. Students proactively undertake the activity, supervised and supported by the member of staff.
7. Once completed all students will make their own way home from the placement at 2pm.

Each placement will be fully risk assessed and insured. There will be at least one member of staff based at DSTC with a vehicle who will be available in the case of illness, support etc. Each staff member will have all the student emergency contact details, medication and placement contact details with them.

The costs of the day are all donated by a wide variety of sponsors including this year: KCC, Dartford Big Local, Bluewater, ER Productions, Campanile Hotel, Rival Colour, Gareth Johnson MP and the Phoenix Place Committee.

Please complete the form attached, it should then be returned to their form tutor.
