New Principal, Letter from the Chair of Governors

Dear Parent/Carer

I am very pleased to inform you that the governors have appointed our next Principal, Mrs Anne Davis who is currently Principal at The Longfield Academy.

We received applications from a strong and experienced field of candidates, four of whom were selected for a demanding two-day interview process. The governors were looking for a Principal to build on the College’s many strengths and bring innovative ideas for the future; they needed to demonstrate an ability to address the challenges that we face, to be accessible and have a consultative style of leadership involving all stakeholders at the College and within the wider community; and to bring a rigorous approach to school improvement for the benefit of all our students. In Mrs Davis we believe we have found such a Principal. She has a clear mandate to lead us forward and build on the results in 2015 which were the best in the local community.

Mrs Davis has a joint honours degree in Maths and Biology and passed the National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2005. Mrs Davis has held a number of posts of responsibility during her career including: Head of Maths, Senior Deputy Head and Principal.

Mrs Davis has a strong track record of leading school improvement, ensuring good and outstanding lessons, fostering an inclusive learning environment as well as working in girls’ schools.

Commenting on her appointment, Mrs Davis said “I am delighted to have been awarded this exciting opportunity and intend to build on DSTC’s strong foundations to ensure your daughters have the best possible chance of success in their future lives. This is a particularly challenging time in education, with the recent White Paper announcements, however I am confident that working with the Governors and staff of the College we will be able to meet these challenges head on and move from strength to strength. I very much look forward to meeting you all in due course. ”

Mrs Anne Davis will take up her appointment in September 2016; until then the school will continue to be led by our Acting Principal, Miss Alison Chapman. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Davis to her role in the Autumn Term. Mrs Davis will be visiting the College over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition and opportunity will be given for parents to meet with her at various events, details of which will be published on the College website.

Yours sincerely

David Edwards
Chair of Governors
