DSTC Careers Aspiration

What are the key points of the Careers Strategy?

1. The Gatsby Benchmarks

The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of 8 guidelines about what makes the best careers provision in schools and colleges.

The 8 Gatsby Benchmarks are:

At DSTC we evaluate the impact of our Careers Programme against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass Tool. This evaluation is completed 3 times each academic year, in terms 2, 4 and 6.

Evaluation of the DSTC Careers programme is completed at the end of each long term (3 times a year) in partnership with the Careers and Enterprise Company using the "Compass Evaluation Tool".

2. A Careers Leader

All schools and colleges must have a named Careers Leader in place, responsible for running the careers programme.

At DSTC our Careers Leader is Mr Allen, Assistant Vice Principal. You can contact Mr Allen by emailing matthew.allen@dstc.kent.sch.uk or by phoning 01322 224309.

3. Enterprise Coordination

DSTC is committed to develop our relationships with an Enterprise Coordinator and Enterprise Advisor, enhancing careers provision and opportunities for our students through the Kent and Medway Careers Hub. Working closely with an Enterprise Coordinator includes working with local businesses and receiving advice on careers delivery within the curriculum. Our partnership with an Enterprise Advisor supports us with utilising expert knowledge and industry expertise.

4. At least one employer encounter every year, for every student in Years 7-13

Our plan shows our intent for every young person to have at least one careers-based experience, every year during school years 7-13.
