Curriculum

"School leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum which prepares pupils well for adult life. It contains a strong element which is designed to support character development. Pupils regularly debate important social and moral questions"

Ofsted, 2022

In education, the ‘curriculum’ is broadly defined as the ‘totality of pupil experiences that occur in the educational process’.

The intent of the curriculum supports DSTC’s vision. In essence, we believe that the curriculum should EDUCATE and EMPOWER all students to become CITIZENS of the FUTURE, through being:

  • Aspirant learners who are ready to learn, make progress and achieve.

  • Respectful and responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

  • Confident young people who are able to live safe, happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

  • Individuals who are committed to their learning journey at DSTC and beyond.

Our intent is that the Curriculum:

  • Provides a broad and balanced integrated curriculum, underpinned by the National Curriculum.
  • Is ambitious, personalised and accessible to maximise progress for each and every student.

  • Is progressive and well sequenced building on prior knowledge, skills and experiences.

  • Promotes high standards and empowers students to be successful and move on to the next stage of their education, training or employment.

  • Ensures that all students are able to thrive, stay safe and develop as healthy individuals and citizens of the future.

  • Expands students' perspectives through enriching and inspiring opportunities that foster a strength of character.

The curriculum at DSTC is fully inclusive and provides opportunities for all students to learn and achieve.
