Charity Round-up with Eleanor

Charity Round-up

DSTC are committed to supporting various charitable causes throughout the year. The College Council meets regularly to discuss which charities the College would like to support and which events they would like to run.  Last term the College participated in Jeans for Genes Day, the Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning and Christmas Jumper Day.

As part of the DSTC Aspire programme a group of Year 7 students took part in the Ellenor £50 accumulator challenge.  We were the only school in the area to take part. We were given a £50 note as the ‘seed’ and then had 7 weeks to ‘grow’ it into as much money for the Ellenor as possible.

Initially we met as a team to decide how to use the £50 seed money to raise as much as we possibly could and we came up with lots of different ideas.  The first event was a Year 7 film night which was very well attended and we raised over £60 from this. We then held a raffle with some amazing prizes donated by companies and individuals including a free MOT at Orchard Garage, a Bluewater gift card, dance lessons, signed books and lots more.  Finally we donated 10% of of the school cookbook sales to the project.

We were also fortunate that the Dartford Gossip Facebook page made us their charity for December and we have had lots of donations from people in Dartford too.  We were very pleased to give over a cheque for £303.30. Well done to all involved.

This term we have raised £100 for the NSPCC as part of the World Number Day bake sale and will soon be donning our red noses for ‘red Nose day’ 2019.
