KS4 Science

Key Stage 4
There are two routes for our KS4. We start the KS4 GCSE in year 9.  We offer the following courses:
Combined Science Trilogy GCSE AQA (8464)
GCSE AQA Separated Sciences: Biology (8461), Chemistry (8462) and Physics (8463)

Science Required practical:

Students must keep up with attendance to ensure all required practicals are completed. Required practical list available in students books.

Students must attend CSI if invited (liaise with DoL).

Students must liaise with their teachers if they miss any required practical.

Year 9 topics:

Biology: Cell Biology (including cell division and transport) – Organisation (Including animal and plant organs)-Bioenergetics (Photosynthesis and respiration).

Chemistry: Atomic structure and the Periodic table – Bonding, structure and properties of matter- The rate and extent of chemical changes

Physics: Energy – Particle model- Electricity

Year 10 topics:

Biology: Infection and responses- Bioenergetics (photosynthesis and respiration) – Homeostasis and response

Chemistry:  The rate and extent of chemical changes -Quantitative chemistry – Chemical changes- Organic chemistry- Formulae and equations

Physics: Electricity- Forces 5a- Magnetism and electromagnetism-

Year 11 topics:


Biology: Inheritance, variation and evolution- Ecology-

Chemistry: Energy changes- Chemical analysis- Chemistry of the atmosphere- Using the Earth’s resources- Organic chemistry.

Physics: Forces b (observing and recording motion) – Atomic structure (includes radiation and decay) – Waves- Space (only Physics).
